How to Shoot Day-to-Astro Time Lapse

This is one of my favourite things to shoot, but I don’t get to do it that often.

We haven’t run classes on this as the capture process can be up to 10 hours! But maybe a weekend camping workshop is due one of these days…

The process itself is time consuming but worth it. You’ll need to sit by your camera for the first couple of hours while the light levels shift, slowly adjusting your camera settings to compensate for the changing light. But once it’s dark you can leave your camera to do its thing and return a few hours later.

Because of the changes made to your camera settings you’ll need special software to smooth out the final video. There’s none better than LRTimelapse (for Mac and PC).

Make sure you have a Lens Demister, an external power source or spare batteries, and a large memory card.
